Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: niobium n., -ic suffix.
Etymology: < niob- (in niobium n.) + -ic suffix.In niobic acid after German Niobsäure (H. Rose 1844, in Ann. der Physik u. Chem. 63 335); compare French acide nobique (1844 in a translation of Rose; compare quot. 1845).
Chemistry.
Of, relating to, or derived from niobium; esp. in niobic acid n. a weakly acidic hydrated compound precipitated from a solution of a niobate. Cf. niobous adj.
