Etymology: < the name of the Nintendo Co. Ltd., (formerly Yamauchi Nintendo & Co., founded 1889), Japanese manufacturers originally of handmade Japanese playing cards and later of computer games and consoles, ultimately < nin- responsibility + tendō paradise, both < Middle Chinese.
A proprietary name for: a range of computer games played on a games console; (also) the console itself.
