Etymology: Probably a variant of knodden, past participle of knead v. (see β forms s.v.).The form nodden in the passage below shows a transmission error for nodding adj., which appears in earlier editions of the text:1777 J. Thomson Castle of Indolence i. x. They neither plow nor sow; ne, fit for flail, E're to the barn the nodden [1748 nodding] sheaves they drove.
