Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin nocifer , -ous suffix.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin nocifer harmful, causing injury (late 12th cent. in a British source; < classical Latin nocēre to hurt, injure (see nocent n. and adj.) + -fer -fer comb. form) + -ous suffix; compare -ferous comb. form.
Originally: †harmful, noxious (obsolete). Now (Medicine): designating or relating to an epileptogenic focus in the cerebral cortex that interferes with normal brain function or development.
