Originally: designating a group of African languages corresponding approximately to the Bantu subdivision of Niger–Congo languages. In later use: designating the languages of the Eastern or Southern Nilotic groups of Nilo-Saharan languages, or the peoples who speak them. Also (now rare) as n.
