Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a Russian lexical item. Etymons: nomo- comb. form, -genesis comb. form.
Etymology: < nomo- comb. form + -genesis comb. form, after Russian nomogenez (1922 in the source translated in quot. 1926). Compare earlier nomogeny n.
Biology (chiefly historical).
A theory which regards evolutionary change as resulting from laws inherent in the nature of living organisms, rather than from external factors.
