Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from French. Or (ii) a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: French nominable; Latin nominabilis.
Etymology: < French nominable (1522 in Middle French) or its etymon post-classical Latin nominabilis (4th cent.; from 12th cent. in British sources) < classical Latin nōmināre nominate v. + -bilis -ble suffix. In sense 2 after nominate v. Compare Italian nominabile (1627).
