1937 Amer. Jrnl. Bot. 24 702/2 As ‘nomina ambigua’ must be understood names or epithets..which are a permanent source of confusion or error, such as Alsine L., which has been applied to at least three different genera, and Rosa villosa L.,which has been used for a number of distinct species.

1962 Watsonia 5 206 Scholz (1959) rejects the name P[olygonum] aviculare L. on the grounds that it is a nomen ambiguum... As I have been able to typify the Linnean species, there is no reason why the name should not be retained.

1994 Systematic Bot. 19 590/2 Current nomenclatural practice..does not recognize the nomen ambiguum argument.
