Molecular Biology.

Usually in form neu: an oncogene originally identified in rat glioblastoma cells, which is overexpressed in some human malignancies, esp. breast and ovarian cancers. Also (usually in form Neu): the product of this gene, which is a membrane protein related to the epidermal growth factor receptor.By convention the name of the gene is italicized in more technical sources. It is now also called HER-2/neu.
