单词 nietzschean
释义

Nietzscheanadj.n.

Brit. /ˈniːtʃɪən/, U.S. /ˈnitʃiən/
Forms: 1900s– Nietzschean, 1900s– Nietzscheian, 1900s– Nietzschian.
Origin: From a proper name, combined with an English element. Etymons: proper name Nietzsche , -an suffix.
Etymology: < the name of Friedrich Nietzsche (see Nietzscheism n.) + -an suffix; compare -ean suffix. With forms Nietzscheian , Nietzschian compare -ian suffix. Compare French nietzschienne (1896), nietzschéen (1906).
A. adj.
Of, characteristic of, or associated with Nietzsche or his views.Nietzsche's philosophy is marked by a sceptical attitude towards the categories and claims of metaphysics and an attack on most previous moral systems, esp. that of Christianity, as weak or slavish in their failure to accept that the chief motivating force in human nature is the ‘will to power’ (see will to power n. at will n.1 Compounds 3). Nietzsche's ideas have been widely associated, esp. in the English-speaking world, with aggressively right-wing political ideologies; in particular, the notion of the Übermensch or Superman (see superman n. 1) was frequently linked to Nazi ideas of racial supremacy (see quot. 1940).
