Etymology: < Niderviller (formerly also Niederwiller), the name of a town in Lorraine in north-eastern France, where ceramic ware has been manufactured since 1754.The original factory was established in 1754 by Baron Jean-Louis de Beyerlé, and concentrated on faience. Following some initial opposition from Sèvres and a change of ownership, porcelain was also regularly produced from 1771.
