Etymology: Reduplication (with vowel variation and suffixation: compare -y suffix1) of nod v.In sense A. 2 probably a reduplication with vowel variation of noddy n.1 In quot. 1653 at sense A. 1 translating French nicquenocque (1532 in Rabelais in the passage translated).
