Etymology: < post-classical Latin ablactat-, past participial stem (see -ate suffix3) of ablactare to wean (Vulgate) < classical Latin ab- ab- prefix + lactāre lactate v. Compare earlier ablactation n., ablacted adj. N.E.D. (1884) gives the pronunciation as (æ̆blæ·kteit) /æbˈlækteɪt/.
