Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: nerve n., -ation suffix.
Etymology: < nerve n. + -ation suffix. In sense 1 perhaps after nervate v. In sense 2 after French nervation (1798–9); compare nervature n. (slightly earlier in this sense).
1. The action of strengthening by consolidation (as though by sinews). Obsolete. rare.Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
