Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; modelled on an Italian lexical item. Etymons: Latin Nerōn- , Nerō , -ism suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin Nerōn-, Nerō (see Nero n.) + -ism suffix, after Italian Neronismo (1668 in the passage translated in quot. 1670). Compare French néronisme (1796–7). Compare earlier Neronist n.
