Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Nephron.
Etymology: < German Nephron (H. Braus Anat. des Menschen (1924) II. 351) < ancient Greek νεϕρός kidney (see nephro- comb. form).
Anatomy and Zoology.
Any of the numerous functional units of a kidney, consisting of a glomerulus and its associated tubule through which the glomerular filtrate passes, undergoing selective reabsorption before emerging as urine.
