Mineral. 1 257) < ancient Greek νεοτήσιος youthful (on account of the mineral's supposed formation later than other manganese silicates; < νεότης youth ( < νέος new (see neo- comb. form) + -της , suffix forming nouns) + -ήσιος , suffix forming adjectives) + German -it -ite suffix¹.

Mineralogy. rare.

A reddish hydrated silicate of manganese and magnesium.
