Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French néoplase.
Etymology: < French néoplase (F. S. Beudant Traité élém. de minéralogie (ed. 2, 1832) II. 483) < néo- neo- comb. form + ancient Greek πλάσις moulding, conformation (see -plasia comb. form).
Mineralogy. rare. Now historical.
A hydrated basic sulphate of iron and magnesium, now regarded as identical with botryogen.
