单词 neutronium
释义

neutroniumn.

Brit. /njuːˈtrəʊnɪəm/, U.S. /n(j)uˈtroʊniəm/
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: neutron n., -ium suffix.
Etymology: < neutron n. + -ium suffix, after German Neutronium (A. von Antropoff 1926, in Zeitschr. f. angewandte Chem. 39 725/2).Antropoff conceived of neutronium as a hypothetical chemical element of atomic number 0, occupying the origin of his periodic table, and this idea has been taken up by other scientists (see e.g. quot. 2005). At the time of Antropoff's suggestion, the neutron was hypothesized to be a close association of a proton and an electron (see neutron n. 3).
Chiefly Science Fiction and Astronomy.
Very dense matter consisting of free neutrons, thought to exist in the interior of neutron stars where electrons and protons combine with each other as a result of extreme pressure. In Science Fiction frequently conceived of as a solid. Astrophysical research suggests that the condensed neutron material present in neutron stars is predominantly in a superfluid state.
