Origin: Probably a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: neo- comb. form, Latin mortuus.
Etymology: Probably < neo- comb. form + classical Latin mortuus dead, a dead person (see mort n.1), probably after neonate n.
Medicine.
A person who is technically brain-dead but whose body functions are maintained artificially.
