Etymology: < neology n. + -ic suffix; compare -logic comb. form. Compare French néologique (1726), Italian neologico (1825), both in sense ‘relating to the formation of new words’. Compare also German neologisch (mid 18th cent. in lingustic sense, 1794 or earlier in theology). Compare earlier neological adj.
