Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin abiūdicāt-, abiūdicāre.
Etymology: < classical Latin abiūdicāt-, past participial stem (see -ate suffix3) of abiūdicāre to take away by a judicial verdict, to reject < ab- ab- prefix + iūdicāre judicate v. With sense 2 compare earlier abjudge v. N.E.D. (1884) gives the pronunciation as (æ̆bdʒiū·dikeit) /æbˈdʒ(j)uːdɪkeɪt/.
1. transitive. To pass judgment against; to reject or disallow; to prohibit. Now rare.
