Origin: A borrowing from Russian. Etymon: Russian nekul′turnyj.
Etymology: < Russian nekul′turnyj uncultured, uncivilized (late 19th cent.) < ne- un- + kul′turnyj cultured, civilized (see kulturny adj.). O.E.D. Suppl. (1976) gives the pronunciation as (nekultu·rni) /neɪkʊlˈtʊrnɪ/.
In Russia and countries formerly part of the Soviet Union: uncultured; boorish. Cf. kulturny adj.
