Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: Latin nebulatus , -y suffix5.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin nebul- (in nebulatus: see nebulated adj.) + -y suffix5, after Anglo-Norman ineuble innebulated adj., and nuble cloudy (see nubilé adj.2). Compare French nébulé (1677 in sense 1). With sense 2 compare earlier nebule n.2 Compare earlier nebulated adj., innebulated adj.
1. Heraldry. Of a wavy or serpentine form, like the edges given to conventional representations of clouds; represented in the form of a cloud.
