Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Latin. Partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Latin nebulat- , nebulare ; nebula n., -ate suffix3.
Etymology: In early use < post-classical Latin nebulat-, past participial stem (compare -ate suffix3) of nebulare to darken (3rd cent.) < classical Latin nebula nebula n. In later use < nebula n. + -ate suffix3. Compare earlier nebulated adj.
Obsolete. rare.
1. intransitive. To become cloudy or turbid.
