Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; perhaps modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: Negro n., -ify suffix.
Etymology: < negr- (in Negro n.) + -ify suffix, perhaps after French négrifier (1773). Compare earlier nigrify v., and also slightly later negrofy v. Compare negrification n.
