Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Negri.
Etymology: < the name of Adelchi Negri (1876–1912), Italian physician, pathologist, and microbiologist, who described these bodies in 1903 ( Zeitschr. f. Hygiene u. Infectionskrankeiten 43 507).
Pathology.
attributive and (rare) in the genitive, esp. in Negri body. Designating a type of eosinophilic inclusion body found in the cytoplasm of neurons infected with the rabies virus, used to diagnose the infection in post-mortem specimens.
