Cf. cook-off n. 1.In the 20th cent., the term bake-off was chiefly used in North America and Australia; however, it has become increasingly common in the United Kingdom and elsewhere as a result of the popularity of the series The Great British Bake Off, a televised baking competition first broadcast by the BBC in 2010.
