Etymology: < nick n.1 + tailed adj.1 Dict. Amer. Regional Eng. s.v. also records a derived noun nicktail with the sense ‘a horse with its tail cut short’ in 20th-cent. use from southern states.
U.S. regional (chiefly southern and south Midland). Now rare.
Of a horse: having a nicked tail.
