Forms: 1700s Nassara, 1800s Ensara, 1800s Insara, 1800s Nasa'ra, 1800s Nasari, 1800s– Nasara. Occasionally also with lower-case initial.
Origin: A borrowing from Arabic. Etymons: Arabic Naṣārā, Naṣrānī.
Etymology: < Arabic Naṣārā, plural of Naṣrānī Nasrani n.In quot. 1792 via German Nassâra (1772 in the passage translated). The forms Ensara, Insara reflect regional (Moroccan) Arabic nṣārā.
With plural agreement. Among Muslims: Christians.
