Etymology: < necro- comb. form + -opsy comb. form, probably after French nécropsie (1826). Compare earlier necroscopy n., necrotomy n. N.E.D. (1906) gives only the pronunciation (nekrǫ·psi) /nɛˈkrɒpsɪ/.
