Etymology: < neck n.1 + tie n.
1. A narrow band of material worn round the collar of a shirt and tied in front, typically forming part of a man's smart or formal outfit. Now chiefly U.S.In modern British English largely replaced by tie n. 4a, and distinguished from both the cravat and the bow tie.
