Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin navicula.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin navicula, specific use (from c1160 in British sources; 13th cent. in continental sources) of classical Latin nāvicula small boat < nāvis ship (see nave n.2) + -cula -cula suffix. Compare navet n.1N.E.D. (1906) gives the pronunciation as (năvi·kiŭlă) /nəˈvɪkjʊlə/.
Obsolete.
