Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a Russian lexical item. Etymons: narco- comb. form, -logy comb. form.
Etymology: < narco- comb. form + -logy comb. form, after Russian narkologija (1935). Compare earlier narcologist n. and slightly earlier narcological adj.
The treatment and study of alcohol and drug abuse (esp. as a medical specialty in the Soviet Union or countries which were part of it).
