Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: neuro- comb. form, -idine suffix.
Etymology: < neuro- comb. form + -idine suffix, after German Neuridin (L. Brieger 1884, in Berichte der Deutsch. Chem. Ges. 17 515). Compare neurine n. 2. N.E.D. (1906) gives the pronunciation as (niūə·ridəin) /ˈnjʊərɪdaɪn/.
Biochemistry. Now historical.
A polyamine isolated from putrefying animal tissue; = spermine n.
