Etymology: Origin uncertain; perhaps a specific use of na, northern and Scots variant of no conj.1 Compare ne conj.2, no conj.2, nor conj.2 Sc. National Dict s.v. records the word as still in use in sense 1 in north-eastern Scotland, Angus, and Clackmannan in 1963, but regards it as obsolescent.
