Etymology: < scientific Latin myotonia (earliest in myotonia congenita myotonia congenita n.) < myo- myo- comb. form + -tonia -tonia comb. form.

Persistent contraction of skeletal muscle after the cessation of voluntary effort or electrical or mechanical stimulation; (chiefly with distinguishing word) any of several disorders characterized by this. congenital myotonia n. = myotonia congenita n.
