1905 E. G. Conklin in Science 10 Mar. 382/1 The mesoplasm is differentiated into a deep yellow substance, the myoplasm, which gives rise to the muscles of the larva and into a light yellow material, the chymoplasm, which becomes mesenchyme.
1985 Jrnl. Embryol. & Exper. Morphol. 89 275 The yellow crescent or myoplasm is a localized cytoplasmic region in eggs of the ascidian Styela that is partitioned to the larval tail muscle and mesenchyme cells during embryonic development.
2001 Nature 8 Feb. 724 Yellow-coloured myoplasm in eggs is preferentially segregated into muscle-lineage blastomeres.
2. Originally: the cytoplasm of a muscle cell; = sarcoplasm n. at sarco- comb. form . Later also: spec. the interfibrillary portion of the cytoplasm of a muscle fibre.

1907 Alienist & Neurologist 28 58 The author [sc. Schiefferdecker] suggests a number of new terms. The indifferent protoplasm becomes ‘myoplasm’ as soon as the cell is plainly recognizable as a muscle cell.
1933 Physiol. Rev. 13 302 Since the myofibrils represent differentiation products of the original myoplasm, it would seem in accord with a more precise terminology to speak of intra- and interfibrillar sarcoplasm; or, perhaps even better, the protoplasm of the fibrils (sarcostyles) might be designated sarcoplasm, that of the interfibrillar regions myoplasm.
1952 Jrnl. Physiol. 118 348 The aim..was to measure the myoplasm resistance and the membrane resistance and capacity in Purkinje fibres of the mammalian heart.
1965 Jrnl. Cell Biol. 27 1 (title) On the differential response of sarcoplasm and myoplasm to denervation in frog muscle.
1987 Nature 19 Feb. 717/2 Transient increases in myoplasmic [Ca2+]..associated with pulse depolarization of single fibres of frog semitendinosus, were obtained by changes in light absorbed by a calcium-sensitive dye in the myoplasm.
2001 Biophysical Jrnl. 80 435 The state of the myoplasmic water was probed by determining the osmotic coefficient of parvalbumin, a small, abundant diffusible protein distributed throughout the fluid myoplasm.
