Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek μυών , -ine suffix1.
Etymology: < ancient Greek μυών muscle, cluster of muscles (see myon n.1) + -ine suffix1. Compare earlier neurine n., and also osteine n.Erasmus Wilson had previously used the similar term myoline to denote the substance he found in muscle fibrils (in a paper read in 1844 and published 1851 in Abstr. Papers Royal Soc. 5 514).
Biology. Obsolete. rare.
