Etymology: < classical Latin mussitāt-, past participial stem (compare -ate suffix3) of mussitāre to mutter < mussāre to mutter ( < an imitative base seen also in ancient Greek μύζειν to mutter) + -itāre -itate suffix.
Obsolete.
intransitive. To mutter.
