Etymology: < Persian nāḵudā master, captain of a ship < nāw boat, ship + ḵudā master; partly via Urdu nāḵudā, Malay nakhoda, and Arabic nāḵūḏa. Compare Portuguese nacodá, necodá (16th cent.).
The captain or master of a local boat in Indo-Malayan or Arabian waters.
