Stress is usually determined by a subsequent element and vowels may be reduced accordingly; see e.g.

Etymology: < ancient Greek μυξο-, combining form (in e.g. μυξοποιός producing mucus) of μύξα mucus (see mucus n.). Compare French myxo- (formations in which are found from at least the mid 19th cent.), German Myxo- (formations in which are found from at least the second half of the 19th cent.).Attested in loans < Latin from the early 19th cent. (see e.g. myxosarcoma n., Myxogastres n.). Formations in English are found from the second half of the 19th cent. (see e.g. myxospore n., myxopod n. and adj.).
