Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin musicat-, musicare.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin musicat-, past participial stem (compare -ate suffix3) of musicare to set to music (4th cent.; c1362 in a British source in sense ‘to praise in music’) < classical Latin mūsica music n. Compare Italian musicare (a1527 in sense ‘to set to music’, 14th cent. in sense ‘to play music’).
