Etymology: < mycoderm n. or Mycoderma n. + -ic suffix. Compare French mycodermique (1857). Compare earlier mycodermatous adj., mycodermatoid adj.
Biology. rare. Now chiefly historical.
Of or relating to the genus Mycoderma; consisting of organisms of this genus.

1890 Philos. Trans. 1889 (Royal Soc.) B. 180 85 Boussingault..has observed that vegetable earth contains..living organisms, germs, the vitality of which is..re-established under favourable conditions as to moisture and temperature. This mycodermic vegetation is not always visible to the naked eye.
1987 Philos. Trans. (Royal Soc.) B. 317 72 Hellriegel & Wilfarth considered that, if there exists in soil a nitrogen-fixing activity, it should be possible to transfer it experimentally, and if it is of ‘mycodermic’ origin it should be inactivated by heat.
