Bonaparte Saggio d'una distribuzione metodica degli animali vertebrati (1831) 31) < Muscicapa , genus name (Linnaeus Systema Naturæ (ed. 12, 1766) 119, after earlier use in M. Catesby Nat. Hist. Carolina (1731) I. 52; < classical Latin musca fly (see Musca n.) + capere to catch: see capture n.) + -inae -inae suffix; compare -ine suffix¹. N.E.D. (1908) gives only the pronunciation (mɒsi·kăpin) /mʌˈsɪkəpɪn/.
