Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Nachlass.
Etymology: < German Nachlass (1816 or earlier) < nachlassen to leave behind (Middle High German nāchlāzen < nāch after (see nigh adv.) + lāzen to leave: see let v.1).
Writings remaining unpublished at an author's death.
