Etymology: As adjective < classical Latin murrinus (also myrrhinus), adjective < murra (see murra n.) + -inus -ine suffix1. As noun < classical Latin murrinum a murrhine vase or cup, use as noun (usually in plural murrina) of neuter of murrinus. Compare Hellenistic Greek μόυρρινος, adjective (also used as noun in feminine μουρρίνη, μορρίνη murra). Compare Middle French, French murrhin, adjective (1556; also myrrhin), Middle French murrhine, noun (1541).The Latin form myrrhinus (compare Greek μύρρινος ) reflects confusion with murrinus , myrrhinus myrrhine adj.
