Designating or relating to the glass-making industry of Murano, or the Venetian glass made there.A glass-blowers' guild existed in Venice from 1224, but in 1291 the glass furnaces were moved to Murano from the main island. During the 15th cent. the demand for Venetian glass for export was so great that the glassmakers were confined to Murano on pain of death, in order to protect their secret techniques.
