Origin: A borrowing from Dutch. Etymon: Dutch muishond.
Etymology: < South African Dutch muishond (Afrikaans muishond ), transferred and specific uses of Dutch muishond weasel, stoat (see mouse-hunt n.1).In some forms apparently influenced by mouse-hunt n.1

(a) A mongoose, a meerkat. (b) Either of two African mustelids: (a) the zorilla or striped polecat, Ictonyx striatus (more fully striped muishond); (b) the white-naped or striped weasel, Poecilogale albinucha.
