Origin: A borrowing from Hindi. Etymon: Hindi nākā.
Etymology: < Hindi nākā eye of needle, defile, gap, checkpoint < nāk nose < Prakrit nakka , probably related to Sanskrit nas (see nase n.).
South Asian.
In India: a toll point or customs station on a road, esp. at a state or national border; a checkpoint. Also (occasionally): a border patrol or customs officer.
